STOPPAGE OF WORK AT MINE

SERIOUS VIEW TAKEN BY GOVERNMENT

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, September 12. The Government was taking a very serious view of the stoppages and trouble at the MacDonald mine at Waikato, said the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb). The importance of the coal supply must be apparent to everybody, and no matter who was to blame, the management or the men, work must be continued and the dispute dealt with in keeping with the conditions of the agreement. Mr C. L. Hunter has been sent to Auckland to convey the Government’s attitude to both the management and the men. He will specially emphasize the serious view the Government has taken of the matter.
