SPRING STOCK SALE AT LUMSDEN

GOOD ENTRIES IN ALL SECTIONS

A large yarding of mixed classes of stock was offered at a spring stock sale held at Lumsden yesterday. The sheep section comprised chiefly ewe hoggets and full and failing-mouth ewes and included some pens of two-tooth ewes and wethers and aged ewes and lambs. Values for ewes and wether hoggets were slightly easier than at recent down-country sales. Most of the lines of full and failing-mouth ewes included a percentage of fine-wooled sheep which were difficult to sell and passings were frequent. Good ewe hoggets realized from 31/6 to 32/6, medium 29/- to 30/-, small 24/- to 26/-; good wether hoggets up to 21/6; good 2-tooth ewes up to 37/9, medium 32/6 to 35/-, inferior 27/- to 28/-; failing-mouth ewes from 15/- to 19/-, inferior 8/- to 10/-; good aged ewes and lambs 13/6 all counted.

There was a good entry of fat cattle of attractive quality, which realized prices in keeping with the recent sales at Lorneville. Extra prime heavy bullocks realized up to £2O, prime quality medium weights £l5 to £l7; prime quality heifers £l4 to £l5, medium £l2/10/- to £l3/10/-; prime quality cows £l2 to £l4.

A good entry of horses was forward, but there was poor competition and tire majority were passed, z although some sales were made privately with values similar to those secured at other centres.

Dalgety and Co. Ltd. sold 33 ewe hoggets at 26/9, 19 at 25/-, 2 wether hoggets at 19/-, 12 wethers at 24/3, 14 at 22/3, 60 4-th wethers at 24/9, 67 f. and f.m. ewes at 26/1, 42 at 19/-, 43 at 20/9, 29 at 17/-, 107 at 15/-, 50 at 20/9, 18 cull ewes at 17/-, 97 ewes and lambs at 13/6 all counted, 15 ewes and lambs at 9/- all counted, 1 fat bullock at £2O, 1 at £l6/10/-, 1 at £l2, 1 fat heifer at £l3/5/-, 1 at £7/12/6, 1 dairy cow at £lO/10/-, 1 bull at £9/10/-, 1 7-year-old draught mare at £lB/10/-, 1 pony mare at £7/10/-, 5 pigs at £l/10/-, potatoes 6/- to 4/6 a bag. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. sold 280 ewe hoggets at 30/9, 115 wether hoggets at 22/4, 17 fat ewes at 26/6, 66 forward ewes at 10/-, 98 wether hoggets at 20/-, 388 ewe hoggets at 32/6, 88 at 22/3, 22 f. and f. ewes at 15/9, 17 wethers at 22/-, potatoes 5/- to 4/- a bag, 1 bag of grass seed at 21/-..
