PATRIOTIC CONCERT AT LIMEHILLS

PRESENTATION OF VARIED PROGRAMME

A concert which was given at Limehills on Tuesday night by the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ concert party, assisted by the pupils of Miss Jean Miller and other artists, was enthusiastically received by a large audience. About £3O was raised and this sum. which was to have been given to the Southland Fighter Aeroplane Fund, Will now be given to the Patriotic Fund. Community singing was led by Messrs C. Trim and B. Hammonds with Mr J. N. Armstrong at the piano. ‘Pupils of Miss Miller presented . ballet items; members of the Returned Soldiers’ concert party presented the sketches “Some Crooks,” “Psychoanalysis,” “Wireless,” “222,” “News,” and “Musical Competition,” and three members gave banjo items. Songs were sung by Mrs B. Hammonds, Miss N. Brumby, Messrs Rewi Kingsland, J. Neilson (with chorus), A. W. Kummert, and P. Linton Hodge (with chorus). Humorous items were given by Messrs C. Paine and J. Gilchrist.

A flag collection was taken up during the singing of “There’ll Always Be An England,” solos being given by Mrs Hammonds, Miss Brumby and Messrs Kingsland and Kummert. A vote of thanks to the performers was proposed by the chairman of the Limehills Patriotic Committee (Mr R. Shand), and was carried with acclamation.
