WOMEN TAKEN FROM BORDER TOWNS
FRENCH OPPOSITION TO JAPANESE

(Received September 11, 6.30 p.m.) KWEILIN, September 10. It is Authoritatively stated that the Indo-China Government has ordered the immediate evacuation of all European women and children from border towns such as Kachang and Langson. One thousand Japanese troops crossed over the Indo-China frontier at Dongdang, but withdrew after a French protest. The French are still firmly opposing Japanese attempts to gain a free hand in,lndo-China. The Japanese apologized swiftly when the French threatened to abandon the negotiations. It is reported jn Chungking that the Indo-China authorities blew up the bridge at Shuikow, on the Kwangsi border, 25 miles west of Lungchow. The Japanese have transferred 4000 troops from Lungchow to the IndoChina border, also 5000 volunteer Formosan high school, students. The Chinese have blown up the international bridge at Loakay, between China and French Indo-China.

The Red Cross without delay is shipping to London 500,000 garments and large stocks of medicines and beds. It has also cabled funds to purchase canteens and so on. _
