PROTEST AGAINST NEW SYSTEM

STOP-WORK MEETING HELD BY WATERSIDERS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 11. A stop-work meeting of Wellington watersiders attended by more than 700 this morning passed a resolution viewing with grave concern and entering an emphatic protest against the imposition of the “so-called” co-operative contract system, which “deprives a large number of members who assist in the work from participating in the benefits as a party to the contract with no knowledge of its contents.” The union felt that a continuance under the present conditions would ultimately undermine and destroy the humane and beneficial working conditions obtained by the sacrifice of past members.
