TIMARU LIME CO.
In their annual report and balancesheet for the year ended August 31, 1940, the directors of the Timaru Lime Company, Ltd., state that during the year alterations and additions to the plant were effected. After being installed, the new plant required adjustment on several occasions and, as a result, the output of lime was, for a period, considerably curtailed. During the latter part of the year, however, the plant was operated continuously arid the company is now in a position to meet an increased demand for carbonate of lime.
The company’s product is widely distributed throughout Canterbury, and the support and co-operation accorded the company by users, merchants and carriers has resulted in a satisfactory year’s trading. The accounts show an available balance of £lOBB/3/10 which the directors recommend be allocated as follows:—Payment of 5 per cent dividend, £650, balance to be carried forward, £438/3/10. SHEARING CLASSES AT ROXBURGH COURSE TO BEGIN ON OCTOBER 22 This year, in anticipation of a shortage of shearers, the Otago Primary Production Council has, in conjunction with the Farmers’ Union, Young Farmers’ Clubs and Agricultural and Pastoral Association, decided to hold shearing classes at Roxburgh and all arrangements have now been made. Advice to this effect has been received by Mr A. L. Adamson, secretary of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, from the Dunedin district council of the National Council of Primary Production. For some years
past successful shearing classes have been run annually by the Christchurch Technical College and they have been attended by young persons from various parts of Canterbury, Otago and Southland. The classes are to be held at Roxburgh from October 22 to November 1. and further particulars are available from the secretary of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
