Election Contests In ... Maine MR WILLKIE’S RETURN PREDICTED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received September 11, 12.30 a.m.) PORTLAND (Maine), September 10. The Republicans are leading the Democrats by at least two to one in all five major contests. The Republican chairman, Mr J. Martin, in a statement in Washington, said that the Maine election returns definitely herald the end of the Roosevelt Administration, indicating the election of Mr Wendell L. Willkie in November and a Republican majority in the House.

In the present Congress Maine is represented in the Senate and House of Representatives solely by Republicans. Maine is represented in the Senate by two members and in the House by three. LONDON CABLEGRAMS DELAYED AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPERS COMPLAIN (Received September 10, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 10. Australian newspapers generally are complaining of the heavy delay in cablegrams from London covering air raids and other important items. Some are taking up to 10 hours in transmission. TIRRANNA OVERDUE SAILING FROM MELBOURNE ON MAY 30 (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, September 9. The Australian Minister for the Navy, Mr A. G. Cameron, said that he had known for about two months that the Norwegian motor-ship Tirranna was overdue on her voyage from Melbourne to Mombasa. It was feared that the Tirranna had either been captured or sunk by an enemy raider in the Indian Ocean. The Tirranna carried a crew of 60 and 12 passengers, including LieutenantCommander S. Rasmussen, who married a New Zealand girl only a few months before he sailed. Nothing has been heard of the vessel since it left Melbourne on May 30. . .

BRITISH AIRMEN IN CANADA
