THE WEATHER

Fair To Fine (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 10. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office:—

Light to moderate south-west to west winds. Weather fair to fine, but cold. Seas slight to moderate.

Following is the Dominion forecast:—

Weather unsettled in the eastern districts between Kaikoura and East Cape, with intermittent rain, but improving tomorrow from the south.

Elsewhere cloudy. Further scattered

showers likely in the western districts of the North Island. Tempera-

ture cool, with frosts tonight in Canterbury and Otago. General Situation.—The disturbance which has been crossing the Dominion has formed a secondary depression near Taranaki. An anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia and the Tasman Sea.

Winds.—Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly winds becoming general during tonight. Seas (New Zealand waters). —Rough between East Cape and Banks Peninsula and rather rough north of Kawhia. Elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—South-easterly winds. Strong at times in the northern portion, otherwise moderate. Seas rough in the north and moderate in the south.

Showery weather was experienced in Invercargill yesterday, but there was bright sunshine in the late afternoon. There was a slight wind from the west. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and overcast with a light breeze coming from the west. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (rising) 30.20 in. Tuesday 29.82 in. Monday 29.86 in.
