OLD BOYS’ CRICKET CLUB

SUCCESSFUL SEASON “The season was a highly satisfactory one, both from playing and social points of view,” says the annual report of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club. “The three teams played attractive cricket and there are good prospects for the incoming season. The senior eleven tied with Invercargill and Appleby in the senior competition and the second eleven annexed the junior A competition. It is the first time in the history of the club that teams have occupied the top positions in these two grades. ‘The club was fortunate in having the High School grounds as headquarters and the splendid grounds and pavilion facilities were the chief factors in making the season such an enjoyable one,” says the report. “The club wishes to express its thanks to the Hi£h

Schools’ Board tor granting these facilities.

“The financial position is sound, and the material to equip the three teams has been carefully handled and prepared and should give us an excellent start financially for the incoming season. “The call for men to serve in the Expeditionary Force has been responded to by many of our members. Already the club has lost some of its most valued members and many more volunteers are waiting to be called up in the various branches of the fighting services. The club wishes to place on record its appreciation of the selfsacrifice of these members and wishes them a safe and speedy return. J. C. Scandrett and C. W. D. Warburton gained representative honours and G. Agnew and B. Clark played in the junior representative eleven in Dunedin.”
