CLOSER RELATIONS URGED

JAPANESE INTERVIEWED (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 9. Closer relations between Japan and New Zealand, even during the war, were urged by Mr Toyokichi Fukuma, Japanese Consul-General in New Zealand, when interviewed before sailing for Japan. On his arrival at Auckland he was welcomed by the Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) and the honorary consul for Japan in Auckland (the Hon. Eliot Davis). Mr Fukuma said that Japan wanted from New Zealand wool in particular and also general raw materials, including casein. In exchange Japan now exported textiles and manufactured goods, but could also send corrugated iron for roofing, fencing wire, and.metal casings for munitions.
