ALL-NIGHT RAID ON LONDON
Bombs Dropped Over Wide Area MANY FIRES STARTED IN CITY (United Press Association—Telegraph Copyright) ’ (Received September 9,11.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 9. German planes were again over London last night and the raid lasted for almost 10 hours. The raids began soon after dark and continued until dawn. Successive waves of aircraft dropped bombs over a widespread area, but at no time was any intensive attack made on a particular military target. The anti-aircraft defences were in continuous action and put up a terrific barrage. Most of the attacks were again along the Thames riverside, where several fires were started. Elsewhere in London bombing attacks resulted in many fires, temporary interruption of services and considerable damage to . public property and private houses. The casualties on the whole are believed to be comparatively slight. «■ The raiders attacked first from the south-east and dropped bombs over the east end of London. A few fresh fires were started and Air Raid Precautions workers were soon in action. Fire services worked on throughout the night in spite of the bombers overhead. A large proportion of the bombs fell on non-military objectives and many wrecked homes in. working-class quarters.
In.south-west London some people were killed when a bomb fell on a concrete shelter.
