REFLECTING ROAD STUDS
USE ON PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS The assistance given to motorists by reflecting road studs at pedestrian crossings was discussed by the executive of the Automobile Association (Southland), at its meeting last night. Letters from a number of local bodies recommending the use of the studs were received.
It was decided that a deputation should wait on the City Council and place the information gathered before it with a view to having studs laid down in Invercargill. - Advice'that the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch city councils had been using the studs for some time and had found them entirely satisfactory was received. A number of other local bodies, it was stated, were already using studs and some were ordering more. Among the letters received was one from the Cambridge Borough Council stating that the studs, if properly laid, shone up well at night and were visible from a distance of 200 to 250 yards. “We have not yet experienced any accidents, and we fail to see how any can occur. All vehicles can run over the studs safely and feel no effect. A cyclist might feel a slight jar if he was travelling too fast, but otherwise it is quite safe,” stated the letter.
