CONDITION OF ROAD AT TE ANAU
REQUEST FOR GRAVELLING TO BE MADE A decision to write to the Wallace County Council asking that the road from the service station to Blue Gum Point at Te Anau be gravelled, was made by the executive of the Automobile Association (Southland) at its meeting last night. The executive received a letter from Mr G. H. Stancombe, of Tuatapere, complaining about the state of the road. There were many water holes and manuka obscured the sides, said Mr Stancombe. There was plenty, of gravel available a short distance from the road and it was easy of access. The secretary (Mr F. W. G. Miller) said he had learned that a gravel pit had been opened at the camping ground there. Members expressed concern that the pit had been opened on the ground, and it was decided that the chairman of the Road Traffic and Camp Committee (Dr S. E. V. Brown) and the secretary should wait on the district Public Works engineer (Mr W. G. Pearce) and ascertain the position.
