Occasional Showers

(Special to The Times)

WELLINGTON, September 9.' , Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office:—

■Moderate to fresh westerly winds. Weather changeable with occasional showers, chiefly on the coast. Moderate temperatures. Seas rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair and mild. Unsettled, however, in the western and far southern districts of the South Island, with intermittent

rain and scattered falls extending later to the western portions of Wel-

lington and Taranaki. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is located near the Chatham Islands, while the weak trough of low pressure which is advancing across the Tasman has reached southern Nexy Zealand. Winds. —Winds in the Auckland province light to moderate and variable. Elsewhere moderate to fresh northerlies to westerlies.

Seas (New Zealand waters). —Rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Winds from the westerly quarter. Moderate in the north, with moderate seas. Strong at times in the south, with rough seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday morning was overcast. Rain began to fall in the afternoon and continued steadily during the evening. The weather at I'o’clock this morning was cool, calm and slightly overcast. The' barometer readings for this morning, Monday and Saturday have been:—

This morning (falling) 29.82 in. Monday 29.86 in. Saturday 30.21 in.
