FAIRFAX FACTORY Mr N. A. Guise, chairman of directors, presided over an attendance of 24 shareholders at the annual meeting of the Fairfax Dairy Factory Company. In formally moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the chairman said the factory had experienced a successful year, the output being up by nearly seven tons. The grading for the cheese output was: Two hundred and seventy-six crates, 93 to 93V per cent, finest; 1071 crates, 92 to 92J per cent, guaranteed price; 552 crates, 91 to 91J per cent., first; and 29 crates second grade, making an average grade for. the season of 92.051, against last year’s average grade of 91.748. The final payout for the previous season was 18.23 d. “This season the sum of 16.98 d for all grades has already been paid out, leaving a balance of ,51d to be divided among the suppliers when the balance of the cheese is shipped, making a final pay-out for the season of 17.49 d. The total cost to f.o.b. was 4.718 d as against 5.17 d for the 1938-1939 season,
“The factory has been efficiently managed by Mr T. A. Barclay, and both he and his staff are to be complimented on the efficient manner in which they have discharged their duties. The services of the manager have been secured for another season. The factory and plant is in first-class order and is ready to open when sufficient milk is offering.” To keep down running costs and at the same time to assist New Zealand and Britain in the war effort, the chairman appealed to suppliers to send in their full quota of milk. With a view to fixing the guaranteed price for the whole of the Dominion, the Dairy Board asked suppliers to give information on the total number of cows milked in January and the average production a cow. The State Advances Department forwarded a letter about advances to farmers to assist production. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the directors for the bonus money to be paid out as follows: Id in July and August and the balance in September. ' It was decided that the factory open on September 12. The retiring directors, Messrs W. S. Brown, J. D. Mathieson and S. Mclntosh were re-elected, and Messrs Reid and Jones were reappointed auditors. At a subsequent meeting of directors Mr N. A. Guise was reappointed chairman.
A vote of appreciation of the services given by the chairman, manager and secretary (Mr E. Matheson) was passed.
