ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH. A SUCCESSFUL OPENING. ■ A chrysanthemum fair in aid of the funds of St. Andrew’s Church, South Invercar-
gill, was opened in the Sunday School Hall before a large crowd of parishioners yesterday afternoon. The hall was tastefully decorated and the walls were lined with w fll filled stalls. The stage was occupied with the display of chrysanthemums, which while small, was very good. The fair was opened by Mr W. A. Ott and the stallholders were kept very busy during the afternoon and evening. The Rev. E. Gardiner introduced Mr W A. Ott to those present and requested him to open the fair. They were very fortunate, Air Gardiner said, in having secured such lovely weather. He thanked those who had worked for the fa .■ „nd spoke of the cheerful way in which the members of the congregation, and particularly the ladies worked together for the progress of h " rCh C ?" here WaS Still a debt Of £l2OO on the church and the object of the fair was to reduce that amount as much as i possible. They had incurred a little more I debt in connection with the sewerage, but he hoped the time would come when the church would be clear once more. ' Air Ott said that he was pleased to be present. As a member of First Church he could assure them that the congregation to which he belonged had a very kindly interest in the parish of St. Andrew’s. Without the assistance of the ladies the church would be in difficulties on many an occasion and he was pleased to see the way in which the ladies of St. Andrew’s were- working for the cause of the church. St. Andrew's was now in the city of Invercargill, and he hoped that rhe parish would progress rapidly. Mr Ott concluded by formally declaring the fair open.
