London, June 2. It is officially announced that Miss Amy Johnson has been awarded the decoration of a Commander of the British Empire. The Evening News says that Miss Johnson was awarded the decoration of Commander of the British Empire through the inspiration of the King, who, considering the Empire’s interest in the flight, believed the Order" of the British Empire the most suitable award. The paper adds that the quality of her flight is regarded as meriting the higher distinction of dame, but her youth led to the conclusion that a commandership was more suitable. Her present honour does not rule out the possibility of Miss Johnson receiving the Air Force Cross. It will be recalled that Bert Hinkler’s cross was not given until he returned, when the Prince of Wales bestowed it on behalf of the King. It would be most popular if Miss Johnson’s return was similarly celebrated. The present honour in nowise prevents the later presentation of the cross. “SIMPLY MARVELLOUS.” (Rec. 8.10 p.m.) Brisbane, June 3. Miss Amy Johnson described her C.B.E. as “simply marvellous. I cannot say how proud I feel about it.” FURTHER HONOUR? AIR FORCE CROSS SUGGESTED. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, June 3. There is speculation whether Miss Johnson’s C.B.E. may be the prelude to a further honour when she returns. Critics have already emphasized that the flight merits the Air Force Cross.
