The latest beauty enhancing innovation is a hair waving club for business girls in the Birmingham area, where 50 per cent, of the working girls are now members of the club. u They contribute front 1/- to 2/- weekly at the beginning of each week, and lots- are drawn to determine which girl shall have her hair waved, so that the lucky girl may have her tresses permanently waved and her eyebrows plucked after the first instalment, whereas unlucky members may have to wait until the whole amount has been subscribed.
Hairdressers say that working girls who are unable to pay from £2 to £3 for beauty treatment jump at the opportunity of the instalment system coupled with the amusing lottery element.
