COUNCIL EMPLOYEES
STANDARDIZING HOLIDAYS.
The heads of departments of the City Council reported to the meeting of the council last evening that they had considered the suggestion that the holidays observed by the council’s employees be standardized as far as possible and submitted the following recommendations which were adopted: (1) That the following public holidays be observed by the heads of departments and office staffs: New Year’s Day and the two following days, picnic day, St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday to Tuesday, Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, Dominion Day, Labour Day, St. Andrew’s Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the following day and occasions when his Worship the Mayor invites the business people to observe holidays for special occasions. (2) That employees other than heads of departments and clerical staff be not entitled to the holidays observed by the public on the invitation of his Worship the Mayor.
(3) That the pump attendants at the waterworks be granted three weeks’ leave of absence on pay each year, the extra week to be in lieu of payment for overtime on Sundays and holidays and for extra time worked when other men are on holidays. (4) That twelve epiployees of the Gas and Reserves Departments be informed that they will no longer be entitled to annual leave of absence on nay. At present they are granted one week’s leave of absence on pay each year and similar employees in other departments are not entitled to any leave on pay. (5) That employees not covered by awards be granted the holidays provided in the nearest allied award.
