COUNTRY’S FINANCES DISCUSSED •REDUCING THE ESTIMATES (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 2. Cabinet had another long sitting this morning and according to present arrangements there will be a meeting every day this week with the exception of to-morrow (King’s Birthday)., When seen after to-day’s meeting, the Prime Minister (the Hon. G. W. Forbes), stated that Cabinet had devoted the morning to a detailed survey of the country’s financial position. He was not able to make any announcement regarding the decisions reached, but the results of their labours would be known when the Government submitted its legislation to .Parliament.
It ia understood that Cabinet to-day discussed ways and means of cutting down expenditure, and it is stated that this year’s estimates will bear evidence of rather liberal use of the. pruning knife.
