BETTING IN HOTELS
COMPLAINT TO LICENSING COMMITTEE

Wellington, June 2.
The Magistrate, Mr Page, said at the annual meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day that the committee will view with disfavour applications for renewals -of licenses where it was shown bookmaking is or has been carried on.
Inspector Rawle said that unfortunately betting was not an offence under ' the Licensing Act. Further to prove an hotel was improperly conducted, improper conduct must be supplemented with drunkenness.
