MIXED DRINKING
MEN AND WOMEN IN HOTELS
POLICE COMPLAINTS.
(Per United Press Association.)
Dunedin, June 2.
Drinking by men and women together in a number of hotels was the chief complaint of the police to the annual meeting of the Dunedin Licensing Committee. It was reported that while some of the licensees prohibited mixed drinking, others encouraged it. The police also reported that in consequence of prosecutions of bookmakers for illicit business in their homes and offices, they were extending operations to hotel bars. Some licensees encouraged this for trade purposes. The committee expressed strong disapproval of mixed drinking as undesirable and tending to lead to improper situations.
