FORTUNE FOR A VILLAGE

EX-RESIDENTS BEQUEST. By the will of the late Mr Robert Douglas, who died at Rochester, New York on May 28 last, the village of Scone in Perthshire, is to benefit very substantially. It is estimated that the value of the total estate is over £1,000,000, Mr Douglas left Scone for America at the age of 30, and there perfected a fruit syrup used as a preservative for jams and jollies. In his will it is stated the substantial portion of the estate will be formed into a trust fund, to be known as the Douglas Foundation, for the promotion of the welfare, happiness and health of the inhabitants of Scone. It is understood that the late millionaire’s brothers are to meet next month and discuss the matter with representatives of the village.
