IN APPRECIATION
ENGLISH VISITOR’S PRAISE.
Sincere appreciation of the warm hospitality of Southlanders was expressed to a Times reporter yesterday by a young Englishman, who has travelled through New Zealand observing farming methods and possibilities with a view to buying land and settling in the Dominion. He is Mr J. Davie, of Limpsfield, Surrey, and he is greatlv impressed with the prospects" of farming in New Zealand and particularly in Southland. Mr Davie said that he has travelled through all the agriculture districts of New Zealand, but nowhere else has he received such a warm reception. Although not wishing to detract from the hospitality of those in the north, he said he had noticed a vast difference in the attitude of the Southland farmers. As he was in the habit of calling on farmers whenever opportunity arose, they did not have an opportunity to judge his credentials, but without exception they were very ready to give any information he desired. For several weeks while in Invercargill he had been a patient in the Southland Hospital, and although quite unknown in the city, a number of local citizens had shown ’much interest in his welfare and had extended their hospitality to him on his recovery. Mr Davie has taken a course at Massey Agricultural College and will return at the beginning of next week to resume his studies. After that, he says, he will probably return to Southland and further investigate the possibilities of taking upland in the province.
