DIPTON DOG TRIALS

TWELFTH GATHERING CONCLUDED.

A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. The twelfth annual trials of the Dipton Collie Dog Club which were commenced on Messrs A. Gerrard and Son’s property, on Tuesday were concluded on Thursday, the gathering having fully occupied a day more than was anticipated. In view of the fact that the trials clashed on Tuesday and Wednesday with those at Tuapeka and on Thursday with the Clutha gathering, the entries were considered to be very satisfactory. On the concluding day the work was particularly interesting and generally of a high standard. The weather was not particularly favourable in the morning, but improved as the day advanced. At the conclusion of the trials, the president (Mr C. Gray) extended thanks to all who had helped to, make the trials such a success. He expressed appreciation to tne competitors, the judge (Mr J. bcott) and the owners of the property. Mr Scott briefly replied. ... . The catering was undertaken by the Dipton Hockey girls who gave entire satisfaction. ■ The remaining results are as follows:-— OPEN HUNTAWAY. Dog to hunt and slew as judge directs. Time, 10 minutes. First prize £6 and shield donated by Mr J. Hobson, second £4, third £3,.fourth £l.

Fly hunted through the poles at first attempt and slewed well to the second set and through at the first attempt, but brought back to one that knocked up and then slewed well to the third poles showing good command. Don hunted through the first poles at first attempt, but let the sheep off the line, carried on and through the second poles at first attempt and also through the ’third" poles slewing well and showing fair style, command and noise. NOVICE EVENT. Heading, bringing back and holding in ring. 300 yards. Time, 8 minutes. First prize £2 and medal presented by MacKinnon Trust, second £1 10/-, third 15/-.

Storm hunted to the right and tailed the sheep before heading, solit the sheep in pulling and let them off the line and out of the ring. Whitie cast to the right and made a good head, failed to stop the sheep and let them around the ring and crossed the line twice. locXl EVENT. Heading, bringing back and yarding in ring. 400 yards. Time, 10 minutes. First prize £3, second £1 10/-, third 15/-. District limits from Castlerock siding on the north to Hundred Line ' on the south, Warwick Downs and Otapiri stream on the east to Taringatura Downs on the west. Handicap limit 10 points.

Don hunted to the right, set a sheep before heading, tailed the sheep, did not stop, pulled fairly past in a good line, style at vards good, yarded, command fair. Chance hunted to the right, made a good head, failed to stop and. pulled in a good line and yarded in 3min. 45sec. Wave hunted to the right, came in on the cast, tailed the sheep before heading, pulled in a fair line, slack at yards, yarded. Tiger hunted wide to the right and headed, failed to stop, let the sheep off the line, was slack at yards and yarded. CONSOLATION SWEEPSTAKE. Short head.
