TRADE AND COMMERCE
ADDRESS AT GORE.
There was a fairly large attendance of Gore business people and of Eastern District farmers at the Gaiety Hall last evening when Dr Fisher, Professor of Economics at the Otago University, gave an interesting address on the subject of the trend of trade and commerce.
The Mayor, Mr D. L. Poppelwell, presided and in the course of his introductory remarks, mentioned that the address was being given at the request and under the auspices of the Gore Chamber of Commerce, the Gore A. and P. Association and the Gore branch of the Farmers’ Union. He also expressed pleasure at the large attendance and said it was the idea of the chamber that if sufficient interest was taken in it, the address would be the first of a series to be given on matters of general interest to the community. In the course of his address, Dr Fisher referred very interestingly to several of the factors which had a direct effect upon the economic conditions existing in New Zealand, and made special reference to the important bearing which the conditions existing in other countries had upon the trade and commerce of the Dominion. The address was listened to with keen interest by those present and at its close, a vote of thanks to the lecturer was' carried by acclamation.
