OHAI NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.)
A public meeting was held on Monday evening, Mr W. J. A. McGregor being chairman. There was a poor attendance present, although the meeting was to elect a Domain Board. The procedure of forming this board was outlined in correspondence from the Minister of Lands and Mr A. Hamilton, M.P. Considerable discussion took place whether seven or nine members should be elected, nine being eventually decided on. Twenty-one names were submitted, and the following members were elected by ballot Messrs W. J. A. McGregor, H. G. Bruce, R. N. Murray, E. W. Hunt, G. S. Langford, C. Mills, A. E. Barnes, T. Todd, and J. Broome. The secretary of the Recreation Committee, Mr E. W. Hunt, stated in answer to a question that the credit balance in the bank was £94 6/6 plus £6O on loan. The chairman stated that the names of the members elected would be submitted to the Governor-General for his approval, and they would hold office for a term of seven years. As there was no public body in Ohai they would also have full control. With regard to the crowning ceremony in connection with the carnival which was held last year to raise funds for the grounds, it was decided that the secretary write to the various Princesses that the committee was willing to carry on with this function should they be able to attend, and he was also instructed to interview Mr J. Clapp jun., of Nightcaps, for information as to details of the ceremony. Mr H. G. Bruce stated that as the secretary of the Recreation Committee had carried out such efficient duties during his term of office he would like to move a hearty vote of thanks to him for his services. This was endorsed by the chairman and carried by acclamation.
A football match was played at Ohai on Wednesday afternoon on the recreation reserve between Otautau juniors and Ohai juniors, the visiting team winning by 13 points to nil. The home team seemed absolutely bewildered when the visitors scored their 13 points soon after the start of the game. A passenger bus, the property of Mr W. Mason, of Ohai, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening. Luckily there were no passengers travelling at the time. Mr Mason was driving the bus into tlje garage at Nightcaps for repairs when it took fire near the cemetery hill
