CORRESPONDENCE
“INVERCARGILL.”
To The Editor.
Sir, —May I be permitted to express my views in respect to the renaming of this fair City of ours? In the first place the old saying “a change is as good as a holiday” may well be,tested as far as renaming our City goes. We all know quite well that as Invercargill we are hardly recognized, in fact we may as well not be on the map and to my mind a change in name may be the means of placing us where we rightly deserve to be. This town, or rather City, owes a great debt of honour to a man who has done much to improve the status of one and all and I presume at some future date a memorial of some kind would be raised to commemorate his deeds. Now, sir, a memorial of the kind I suggest would be a very good one and would be an everlasting tribute to his memory and I feel sure right thinking people would raise no objection to my suggestion that is that as a tribute to that most worthy and esteemed person, the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward that Invercargill be renamed “Wardville.” I am inclined to believe that I have already some keen supporters and trust that they will give their views and support in this matter. —I am, etc., ADVANCEMENT.
