RUMANIAN WIFE
CASE BEFORE A COURT.
WEDDING RING INSCRIPTION. London, May 13. M. Barba Jonesco, the Rumanian who entertained Prince Carol of Rumania in Surrey before the Prince was ordered to leave England, and who was awarded £lO,OOO damages against the Evening Standard because he was described as a Polish Jew, has rather Oriental ideas about his wife’s position. “Indeed, inside the wedding ring are inscribed the words, ‘Enter into slavery,’ ” said counsel for the defence when M. .lonesco's wife was sued for £1329 by a West End firm. Plaintiff’s counsel said that in 1928 Madame Jonesco ordered three suitcases made of crocodile skin, two bearing Prince Carol’s initials and one her husband’s, also crocodile skin dressing cases, one valued at £431, as a present for her husband. When asked to pay, Madame Jonesco pleaded that she was a victim of the Hatry crash. The Judge ruled that she acted as her husband's agent and dismissed her from the suit.
