THE EMPIRE GAMES.

Wellington, May 29.

A special meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-day decided to recommend to the Empire Games committee the inclusion in the New Zealand team for the games of A. J. Elliott, the Auckland sprinter, and J. W. Savidan, the Auckland distance runner, subject to the Auckland Centre finding the necessary money for Savidan.

NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATION.

Wellington, May 29.

The New Zealand team which will compete at the Empire Games in Canada from August 16 to 23 next will comprise 12 rowers, three swimmers and four athletes. This decision was come to to-night at a meeting of the British Empire Games Committee.

The team will comprise, in addition to the rowing eight and two reserve athletes, S. A. Lav (Hawera) javelin thrower, A. J. Elliot "(Auckland) 100 and 200 metres, W. J. Savidan (Auckland) 5,000 and 10,000 metres, R. O. Johnson (Dunedin) hop, step and jump swimmers, Miss G. E. Pidgeon (Auckland) 200yds breaststroke, R. C. Calder (Dunedin), high and spring board diving, G. Bridson (Auckland), 100 yds, 400yds and 1500yds. The rowing team would assemble at Wanganui on June 10.

It was stated there were no boxers up to standard. The appointment of a managed was deferred. The team will sail from Auckland by the Aorangi on July 1. The Athletic and Swimming .Associations are io be informed that it would be necessary to find £135 for each representative sent, to the Games. The Olympic Games Association is to be asked to donate £5OO. A team of seven bowlers may also go.
