FLOODS!
LOCAL VISITATION. BUSINESS' HOUSE’S MISFORTUNE. DISPLAY WINDOWS DRENCHED. As if to show how much harm could be done within a small area, the recent heavy rains which fell throughout' the province broke into an Invercargill Store’s windows and gave everything there a thorough drenching. The windows that received such unwelcame attention belonged to the Departmental Stores and were immediately below the Kelvin Street building operations. By reason of . a blocked spouting, a miniature lake was formed on the roof and, finding an outlet, deluged a display of Towels, Flannelettes, Sheets, Damask, Calico and other goods. On Friday all the damp lines are being offered to the shopping public at quick clearance prices that are but a fraction of the value of the goods.
While the flood is a misfortune for the firm, there is no doubt that Southland ladies will be only too pleased to take advantage of the opportunity and that many will attend the sale at Messrs H. and J. Smith’s on Friday—(Advt,,).
