RAID BY POLICE
NEW YORK HOTEL HEADQUARTERS OF GANG OF CROOKS STOLEN JEWELS RECOVERED (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 12.45 a.m.) New York, May 27. The police this week raided a room in a fashionable hotel which proved to be the headquarters of William O'Connor and his gang of crooks, and secured most of the booty, valued at £lOO,OOO, stolen in November from 18 dinner guests. When the police arrived someone threw a purse out of the window. It contained 21,000 dollars in banknotes, which fluttered in the wind.
Detectives later traced O'Connor's safety deposit box, which contained precious stones and cash to the value of £200,000. One emerald ring is valued at £4OOO, and a pearl necklace is appraised at £3OOO. .
Four valises were full of some the finest jewels in the country.
