WYNDHAM NEWS

(From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the committee of the Wyndham Citizens School Carnival Executive was held on Friday evening, Mr G. J. C. Smart, chairman, presiding over the following: Messrs C. E. Davey (secretary), E. J. Traynor, H. Hunter, A. T. Ross, L. B. Borrow and Mrs McGlinchey. Two letters were received from the secretary of the Wyndham District High School Committee, applying for £5 10/- for wood and coal and £lO 2/6 to secure a new lawnmower and gramophone records, both grants for school use. The balance of the money was required for laying down concrete paths at the rector’s residence. The secretary tabled the bank book showing a balance of £4O 6/1, plus additional amounts received £8 4/6, making a total of £4B 10/1. After a short discussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr Traynor and Mrs McGlinchey that the requests be granted. Birthday Party. A happy function took place at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Waters, Edendale, on Thursday evening, when close on 70 friends were present to mark the coming of age of their son, Harry. The evening was devoted to dancing in the spacious barn, which was neatly decorated with streamers and balloons. Music was supplied by Mr and Miss McDonald (Menzies Ferry) while extra dances were played by Miss E. Mor-

ris and Miss Cochrane. Those who were not interested in dancing were entertained at euchre in the house. Supper was set in the dining room, and after the loyal toast had been honoured, Mr W. Irvine, who filled the position of chairman, presented Mr Harry Waters with a large key, congratulating him on attaining his majority. Complimentary remarks were added by Messrs R. K. McDonald, T. Hickey, G. Dickson, W. W. Chaplin, J. Eades and A. Cushnie. During the evening Miss I. Tither contributed a vocal item. . Mrs Smith, grandmother of the guest of the evening, was able to be present. ' •' t Football. . The following team will represent the Wyndham second grade fifteen in their match against Seaward Downs, to be played at Wyndham to-day: G. Lindsay, V. Milne, P. B. Barnett, S. Jones, E. McLennan, J. Johnstone, J. McCallum, W. Johnstone, J. McKenzie, A. Jamison, S. Bain, A. Gibson, A. Johnstone, B. Popham, G. McLennan. The team to represent Wyndham thirds against Edendale will be as follow’s: Francis, Harley, Milburn, Williamson, McGrouthers, Crighton, Wilson, Hansen, Poole, Leitch, McKenzie, Crosbie, Scott, Stewart, Heaps, Milne, Kiddey, Baker and Crighton. 1 Hockey. ■ The following team will represent the Wyndham ladies’ hockey team in their match against Gore High School at Gore to-day: Misses Marion Stevens, Mona Gorman, Betty.
