ITALY AND MALTA
PLAIN SPEAKING BY MINISTER. “THE HUNGRIEST EYES CAST." t (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) London, May 26. “Speaking with full responsibility, I say there is not a shadow of doubt that Italy hast cast the hungriest eyes on Malta, and if the oft-mentioned scheme of a revival of the old Roman Empire means anything, Malta is designed to be the pivot,” said Sir Augustus Bartolo, the Maltese Minister of Education, and also Lord Strickland’s deputy, 1 when interviewed in London. He added that, the present difficulties were political, not religious, but that the ecclesiastical authorities were undoubtedly helping the Nationalists. “We only claim,” he declared, “to take our religion from Rome and our politics from ourselves.”
