COLD BATH HABIT
DECLINE IN ENGLAND. The Englishman is fast losing his famed cold-bath habit. It is significant that ever since the coming of the geyser, which made the heating of water possible, with a minimum of trouble, says a London writer, the custom has been dying out. Few men today boast of that Spartan morning dip. According to an official of the Metropolitan Water Board, people are taking more hot baths, and this is one of the main causes of the marked increase within recent years—3,ooo,ooo,ooo gallons last year—in the quantity of water used by Londoners. Cold baths have never been popular among women. But London women have a good excuse to offer. They blame it on to the exceptional hardness of London's water. Hard, cold water, says the beauty specialists, will ruin the finest complexion, and the only way to soften it is to use it hot, with a good soap.
