“The inspector grades the teacher. on his results. This begets the result-getter, not the educator,” said Mr P. M. Jackson in his presidential address to members of the Public Schools Assistant Masters’ Association in Wellington. “New Zealand swarms with result-getters. * Educators are not encouraged. Thus the grading system is responsible for this iniquitous system. The best result-getters are appointed inspectors, and thus the system is perpetuated. Inspection and grading go together, and perpetuate what is the negation of all true education.”
