INQUIRY INTO ACT.

STATUS OF COMMISSION RAISED.

Wellington, May 26.

It was announced to-day that the committee appointed by the Government to investigate the operation of the Workers’ Compensation Act has been raised to the status of a Royal Commission.

It is understaad that the alteration was necessary to cover the question of the payment of the expenses of the members. The commission has now reached decisions on all the material points of inquiry and is at present engaged on the elaboration of its recommendations. Its report, which will be presented to Parliament, is expected to be completed by the end of the current month.
