Said to have stolen from his employer’s house a golden sovereign, among other things, 'Frederick Holmes, aged 22, a labourer, of, Preston. England, was ignorant of its value and sold it for 2/-. This story was told at the Police Co.urt, when Holmes was placed on probation. He would be about seven years of age when gold disappeared from the coinage
