* GENERAL NOTES. The Calm and Waikawa experienced a rough passage down the coast. They arrived at the heads about 8 p.m. on Thursday, but were unable to berth owing to the westerly gale and dense rain squalls obscuring the Harbour lights. The weather conditions on the, waterfront practically stopped all work yesterday morning. In the afternoon the conditions were better and work proceeded intermittently. Included in the cargo landed by the Calm, were two Hereford heifers, consigned to the order of Mr. A. S. Holms, Waimahaka and two for Mr. F. Blatch, Lumsden, shipped from Wanganui by Wright Stephenson and Co. The Awarua s.s. (Captain R. J. Hamilton), arrived from Halfmoon Bay at 12.15 p.m. with 32 passengers, mails and cargo, including a quantity of fish. The ship experienced a very boisterous passage, crossing in a westerly gale with high seas running. , The New Zealand Shipping Company s Jinter Hororata is expected to sail from Dunedin on Tuesday next for Bluff, being due here on Wednesday to discharge general cargo, She leaves later for New Plymouth to complete discharge. KOTARE’S MOVEMENTS. The Kotare was not despatched yesterday for Port Craig as hoped, but should weather conditions improve, she will leave the lower anchorage this morning. At Port Craig she will load timber for Dunedin, returning to Invercargill towards the end of next week with general cargo for discharge. KENT DUE NEXT MONTH. To discharge general cargo from West Coast of the United Kingdom ports, the Federal steamer Kent is due at Bluff from Dunedin on June 25. The vessel will then load back cargo and sail agliin on June 30 for Port Chalmers in continuation of her programme. TURAKINA TO LOAD. The Federal steamer Turakina which left Glasgow on April 2-1 for New Zealand ports, is scheduled to load refrigerated meat at Bluff on the 30th inst. The local agents have not yet been advised whether the vessel will make Bluff her first port of call or whether she will come to this port from Oamaru where she Was originally due to arrive on June 1. KARAMEA COMING. A sister ship to the Coptic recently in port at Bluff, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s motor vessel Karatnea is 'at present en route to New Zealand with cargo from London and West Coast of the United Kingdom ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Upon completing discharge she will arrive at Bluff on July 5 to load a fairly large quantity of frozen meat and general cargo. After being in port for four days the vessel will proceed to Timaru, Lyttelton, Gisborne and Wellington to complete, sailing finally on July 24 for London. HUNTINGDON DUE TO-DAY. Despatched from Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon for Bluff direct, the Federal Line steamer Huntingdon is expected to berth at 11 a.m. to-day to continue Homeward loading. The vessel loaded cargo at Glasgow and Liverpool for northern New Zealand ports and left Liverpool on March 15. She arrived at Curacao on March 29 and cleared Balboa. on April 1. She experienced a generally fair weather passage, except for two or three small blows, and rough weather off the New Zealand coast. She arrived at Auckland on April 23. Captain 11. G. B. Fields is in command and has associated with him the following officers: —Chief, Mr. N. D. Stewart; second, Mr. P. H. Chatwin; third, Mr. W. H. Timberlake; fourth, Mr. H. Morpeth; chief engineer, Mr. A. White; second, Mr. T. Spence; third, Mr. J. Plimmer; fourth, Mr. S. Ankers; fifth, Mr. W. C. Hill; sixth, Mr. P. Sanders; seventh, Mr. A. Taneran; chief refrigerating engineer, Mr. G. F. Missen; second, Mr. D. Campbell; chief steward, Mr. J. Wade; radio operator, Mr. J. Mugridge.
