DERBY MATCH
AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN VISITORS DISMISSED FOR 348 / • i •' PONSFORD COMPILES 131 (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) London, May 22. Scoring six short of 300 for to-day's play against Derbyshire, the- Australians did well, as there were several adjournments owing to rain, and the bowling was never loose. Ponsford and Jackson scored at a fast rate, recording 100 for the opening partnership for the first time on the tour. The second 50 took 35 minutes.
Jackson, who' hit both Slater and Mitchell for sixers, was very dashing to-day. Ponsford was aggressive, and Bradman also attacked the bowling. Derbyshire’s total was passed with nine wickets still intact. The greasy ball handicapped the bowlers, and Ponsford scored boundaries in all directions until he was caught at cover. He hit 18 fours. Kippax, Richardson, and McCabe were unimpressive and were dismissed after scraping together a few runs. • The crowd cheered when Fairfax was bowled after a dismal hour’s batting.
