M.C.C. TEAM’S TOUR • STATEMENT OF .FINANCES SURPLUS GOES TO PAY PROFESSIONALS •!' ' (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, May 22. . A summary of the financial position resulting from the M.C.C. team’s tour of New Zealand was presented by Mr D. E. Wanklyn at a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council this evening. First test .. .. .. ..* .. .. 486 Second test .. .. .. ... .. 740 Third test 83 Fourth test 704 Total .. ~ £8212 The expenses were as follows: Tour in New Zealand .. ..... 4942 Tour in Australia 1133 First test < 237 Second test .. .. .. .. .. .. ' 93 Third and fourth .. .. .. .. 399 Total .. .. ' £6805 This leaves a net surplus of £1407. Mr Wanklyn announced also that an amount of £3Bl income tax charged in Australia had been remitted. Under agreement with the M.C.C., the surplus must be devoted to recompensing the M.C.C. for the payment of the professionals with the team. Those fees totalled £l6OO and £l4OO would be available to meet the fees. But for rain the council would probably have been able to pay the M.C.C. in full and have had £lOOO profit.
