MONTHMY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the Ohai Railway Board at Wairio on Wednesday was attended by Messrs W. Excell (chairman), R. N. Robertson. D. D. Macdonald, E. Davis, L. S. Edmond, T. Fraser, W. J. A. McGregor, G. S. Edie and W. Crawford. The general manager, engineer and traffic manager were also in attendance.
The business transacted in committee was confirmed. The general manager’s, engineer’s and traffic manager’s reports were approved. The chairman remarked it was disappointing to note there had been a decrease in the haulage of coal, but this had no doubt been due to the good weather prevailing. The question of the recent stoppage of the service from Wairio to Ohai on the occasion of the breakdown of the Leyland was discussed, the general manager stating this was due to a switch being out of posh tion. This was under the control of the Government and should have been locked after the train left. While it was regretted that some passengers were inconvenienced by the interruption of the service the management was doing eevrything possible in the interests of the public. It was only on rare occasions that such a thing happened, and fortunately the damage was slight. The Valuation Committee reported having interviewed Messrs Edie, ■ McGregor and Bain and after negotiations the ‘following had been agreed upon: Mr Edie to accept £3O per acre for 1 rood 14 poles; Mr Bain £5O per acre for 1 acre 2 roods 36 poles; and Mr McGregor, £3O per acre for 10 poles. They recommended that this be given effect to. —Approved. The question of repairs to the Ohai loading yards was discussed, and it was left in the hands of the engineer to attend to the matter.
