TUATAPERE NOTES

The Tuatapere Draughts Club held its anuual meeting recently when a satisfactory report of the previous season was received. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. A. Prentice; vice-presidents, Messrs B. Brookes, H. Lobb, J. D. Cameron, W. Finn, T. J. Henderson, J. Pont, W. Weavers, W. Stoneman, and A. Fraser; secretary, Mr. J. Ford. The president donated a silver cup for a handicap senior competition and the first and second prizes for a junior competition were donated by Mr. Miles Ford and Mr. T. Dorgan respectively. It was decided that the meetings be held in Lobb’s Sample Rooms on Monday evenings. The first held this week was well attended.

The annual meeting of the Golf Club was held recently. The report showed a credit balance of £8 11/10, the overdraft having been decreased by £ll 7/8. Thanks were expressed to donors of trophies in the past season and to the ladies for supplying afternoon tea.’ Congratulations were extended to Mr. John Mangan on again winning the junior championship of Southland. The following were elected for the coming season : President, Mr. Robert Scott; secretary, Mr. R. Muirhead; club captain, Mr. J. A. Mangan; ladies’ captain, Mrs. Dodds; Ladies’ Committee, Mesdames Mazengarb, Curow, Muirhead, Scott and Mangan; men’s committee, Dr. Dodds, Messrs Walker. J. Lawson, R. Mazergarb, Hammond and Mangan; handicappers, club captain and ladies' captain; auditor, Mr. Mazengarb. Opening day was fixed for Wednesday, May 28, and the secretary was instructed to invite the various clubs and to ask Mr. Adam Hamilton, M.P., to be present. It was decided to lay down an additional green, making nine holes and to have local rules printed on the back of score cards. Messrs R. Scott and J. A. Mangan were appointed a green’s committee.
