COMPETITIONS
THE GORE FESTIVAL. SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED. The Gore Competitions Society brought its annual festival to a successful close in the Princess Theatre last evening, when the second demonstration concert was given before a large and enthusiastic audience. As on the previous evening, the programme presented was a most enjoyable one and provided tin indication of the excellent standard reached in the dancing, musical and elocutionary sections taken during the festival. As the result of the support given to last night’s concert the financial success of the festival is assured. ESSAY RESULTS. The following results of the essay sections in the Gore Competitions Society’s festival are to hand: — SENIOR ESSAY, open to High School senior pupils only; subject, “Should Examinations be Abolished?” Master Wilfred Rhodes 1 Miss Moira Nixon , 2 Miss Ailsa Sherborne .. 3 JUNIOR ESSAY, open to High School junior pupils only; subject, “An imaginary account of a shipwreck, in the form of a letter from a survivor.” Master George Currie .. .. .. .. .. 1 Miss Frances Reid 2 Miss Lillu McKay 3
