DECREASED REVENUE

Wellington, May 22.

The return of the postal and telegraph revenue for the Dominion for the quarter ended March 31, 1930, shows (shillings and pence omitted) that the total collected was £866,292 compared with £942,031 for the first quarter in 1929. The total postal revenue for the first quarter of 1930 was £361,622 compared with £458,193 for the corresponding quarter last year and the telegraph revenue was £504,670 compared with £483,838. During the same quarter, savings bank withdrawals amounted to £7,595,770, compared with £6,517,949 for the corresponding quarter last year, while deposits were £6,616,965 and £6,908,589 respectively. There was an excess of withdrawals this quarter, compared with an excess of deposits during the corresponding quarter last year.
