Crepe=de=Chene Necklace
(From Our Correspondent.)
There are some amusing novelties appearing at the later dress shows. One of the most novel is the necklace of beads covered in crepe-de-chene to match the frock. The Duchess of Westminster was wearing one of these in beige and brown in large round beads which exactly matched her frock when she visited the show of “Old Conversation Pieces” at Sir Philip S. Sassoon’s house recently. Other novelties are Jong iridescent chains ,of glass beads exactly matching the tone of the frocks over which they are worn.
Vivid coloured posies are also a novelty. The posy habit will not die out, as it is possible "to give an interesting finish to a costume by wearing something in flowers or fruit which’ calls the colours of the accessories together. A woman at a recent wedding had a scarlet hat with a black outfit, and had a little posy of scarlet primroses tueked into the collar of her coat and a bag in the same colour in crepe-de-chene with marcasite mount set in onyx. Another amusing buttonhole was worn on a green frock—it was a bunch of strawberries in black lacquered material, with black lacquer leaves.
The Queen is faithful to a posy, but she always wears something that looks natural. When she came to the private view of the Amateur Art Society the other morning she was wearing a new spring outfit in pinky beige romaine, the long coat made with the new Ulster cape-sleeves and a collar of beige squirrel. She had no posy and going round the exhibition saw a set. of posies of spring flowers in tinted muslin. She promptly bought one and put it on to the great delight of the artist who had made them. Incidentally she made many purchases of the tiny things that please her so much. A set of toy greenhouses with miniature growing plants attracted her attention, and she bought them and had them sent to Windsor Castle, where she was going the next day.
