Manuka from Wellington to Sydney. FRIDAY, JANUARY 21. Mails for Chatham Islands close at C.P.O. on Friday, January 21, at 6.15 a.m., for despatch from Lyttelton by s.s. Tees. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26. Mails for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa close at C.P.O. on Wednesday, January 26, at 6.15 a.m., for despatch from Auckland by s.s. Tofua. W. T. JOHNSTON, Chief Postmaster.

Store Sheep: There was a good entry for this time of the year, including ewes from the Chathams, Marlborough, and Nelson, Ewes with good mouths sold well, as did rape lambs. Aged ewes and lambs 12/4 to 14/1, good ewes and lambs 16/- to 18/8,. four-tooth three-quarterbred ewes 25/-, four, six and eight-tooth three-quarter-bred inferior ewes 21/- to 24/-, four, six and eight-tooth good ewes 25/- to „ 28/6, failing-mouth crossbred ewes 17/10, aged ewes 11/9, cull two-tooth crossbred ewes 20/6, two-tooth Corriedale ewes 33/3, two-b-.ifh-pj pwes 27/6 tn 30/3, four and six-tooth three-quarterbred ewes 30/11. i our and -ix- :ooch wethers 21/- to 23/11, cull two-tooth three-quarterbred wethers 14/9 to 16/5, four-tooth halfbred wethers 20/6 to 21/-, good rape lambs 20/6 to 22/7, medium lambs 18/2 to 19/3, halfbred lambs 21/3, ewe lambs 23/10, cull lambs 14/1.

Fat Sheep: An average entry, but a sticky sale, values being down by 1/6 all round, in addition to which there were passings. Extra prime wethers to 31/10, prime wethers 26/9 to 30/-, medium wethers 24/6 to 26/6, light wethers 22/6 to 24/3, extra prime ewes to 26/-, prime ewes 21/- to 23/6, medium ewes 17/6 to 20/6, light ewes 15/- to 17/-, old ewes 12/6 to 14/6. Fat Cattle: There was a heavy entry of 535 head, and a very sluggish sale, values being down by an average for ordinary beef, of up to 25/- per head, and good stuff by 15/- to 20/-. Rest steer beef made from 34/- to 36/- per 1001 b, medium class and heavy beef 31/- to 33/6, best heifer 33/6 36/6, ordinary cow and '■ ’7/6 to 31/-, and rough beef down to 25/-.

Values were:—Prime heavy steers to £l6 7/6, prime medium-weight, steers £l3 10/to £l5 5/-, medium quality steers £ll to

£l3, light steers £8 to £lO 15/-, extra prime heifers to £l2 17/6, prime heifers £8 to £lO 10/-, medium heifers £6 10/- to £7 15/-, light heifers £5 to £6 5/-, extra prime cows to £ll 17/6, prime cows £7 5/- to £9 15/-, medium cows £5 5/- to £7, old cows £4 to £5.

Vealers: There was a fairly large entry of vealers. Good sorts sold well at late rates. Runners to £7 15/-, good calves £5 to £6, medium calves £3 10/- to £4 10/-, small and inferior calves 10/- to 30/-.

Store Cattle: The entry of store cattle consisted mainly of cows. Forward steers and good fresh young cows sold well, but inferior sorts were not so easy to quit as of late. Good three and four-year-old steers £9 6/-, good cows to £4 15/-, medium cows £3 to £4, inferior cows 30/- to £2 10/-.

Dairy Cattle: The sale was a good one throughout. Prices advanced slightly on late rates, best second, third, and fourth calvers £8 to £l2, medium sorts £6 to £7 10/-. inferior sorts £3 10/- to £5 10/-, extra good springing heifers to £l3 10/-, good sorts £7 to £lO 10/-, others £4 10/to £6 10/-.

Fat Pigs: The entry of fat pigs was large. There was a fair demand, with prices on a par with last week. Extra heavy baconers were practically unsaleable. Choppers £3 to £5, light baconers £3 7/6 to £3 17/6, heavy baconers £4 to £4 8/-, extra heavy baconers to £5 3/-. Average price per lb 6d to 6-Jd. Light porkers, 46/- to 52/-, heavy porkers 56/to 63/6. Average price per lb 7ld to Bd. Store Pigs: There was a large entry of store pigs. The demand was fair, but, if anything, prices were a shade better than last week’s. Small weaners lf>/- to 21/6, better sorts 22/- to 26/-, small stores 27/to 33/-, medium stores 34/- to 40/-, large stores to 50/-.
