After their escape from the Hamilton police lock-up, Brewer and Curtis took a racing car from a private garage in Hamilton and were recognised at Gleneden by Constable Smith, who enlisted the services of a motor cyclist with a ridecar and gave chase. When he drew level with the stolen car the two occupants jumped out, Brewer going in one direction and Curtis in the other. Curtis was soon caught but Brewer escaped. At the Police Court to-day Curtis was charged with escaping from lawful custody and was remanded to January 27.
