RETURN TO ROME
OPPOSED BY CHURCH MEMBERS. APPEAL TO ANGLICAN BISHOPS. (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) London, January 18. The joint secretaries of the League of Loyal Churchmen and the Protestant Alliance have sent a letter to several bishops attending the Lambeth Conference, assuring them of the support of the large body of Church members who are voiceless in the Convocation and other conventions, and expressing the hope that despite the malignant efforts of pseudo Anglo-Catholics, the bishops will do their utmost to prevent, a reversion to the mediaeval practices rejected at the Reformation. The Bishop of Norwich (Dr Pollock) among others, replied, saying that he always thought it unfortunate that devout churchmen should hesitate to express views, and then complain when things went contrary to their wishes.—A. and N.Z.
