TROUBLE AT WANGANUI STEVEDORES’ ACTION RESENTED ARBITRARY TREATMENT ALLEGED (Per United Press Association.) Wanganui, January 17. A partial strike of waterside workers employed in loading the steamer John occurred this morning and is still in progress. One of the watersiders during a lull in the operations left and went to the Union offices to vote. When he returned in about five minutes’ time he was dismissed by the wharfinger. The whole 38 men then walked off the ship. Later. The trouble on waterside has been referred to the Disputes Committee, and in the meantime the men resumed at 1.20 p.m. this afternoon. Mr W. J. Rogers, secret ary of the union, stated that the action of the men was due to what they considered arbitrary treatment to a watersider on the part of the wharfinger.
